The Great Paper Caper by Oliver Jeffers.

December 22, 2008

I bought a few books for my nephew and niece this year and decided to get them some books, so i visited Waterstones to dig out some lovely illustrated books. So this is how i came across Oliver Jeffers, i bought one for my nephew and bought one for myself, and this is the one i ended up with. Now this one, although it being in the children’s section of the store, doesn’t strick me as being very childish, in fact i thought it extremely funny and often a bit on the stupid side of adult humour. The story is of a bear who has a shoes to fill to win the 112th paper plane competition and cuts down trees to make paper, basically its aimed at sustainability and cutting down trees to make paper, RECYCLE!! Its brilliant and so are the illustrations, often very funny and beautifully created. Not only is Oliver Jeffers a children’s book illustrator he is also an exhibiting artist, his paintings deal largely with the absurd and humorous.
