In The Night Country Writen By Stewart O’Nan, cover by Gary Taxali.

December 23, 2008

I bought this book a while back, and they say you should never judge a book by its cover when it comes to purchasing books right? WRONG! These two artists completely compliment each other, and it may be one of my first finds that does this. Stewart O’Nans book works from the perspective of 3 ghosts who were killed in a car crash and a year later at Halloween are brought back by the memories of the living, its these kind of horrors that touch small towns in suburbia America that give it that isolated feel to the story. The illustration reflects the kind of rustic look of small vintage business signs and advertisements, and Gar Taxli’s style captures this so well. He works with mix media, print, lino cutting, and pen and marking, this style creates that worn dated effect. He also prints onto old paper stocks or altered paper stocks that give them that vintage feel.
